We hope to be in our new office location by January 2008. Given the delays in building anything in California, to say nothing of the redevelopment area of El Cajon, this date is, indeed, a hoped-for date, not a promise.
The history of law firms in Southern California is that, every seven or eight years, they move. The pressure of rental increases and changes in firm structure often pressure (or advantage) the firm to 'move on'. What happens then is that clients are either forced to move -- or find new lawyers! We want to move just one, last time. So, rather that being at the whim of a landlord, John Grier, the Managing Partner, has decided to build an office building. John also was the unfortunate victim of the October 2003 'Cedars Fire' in San Diego, where his home, like almost 3,000 others, was destroyed.
The new office building will therefore incorporate a new home for John. Like many lawyers and doctors, particularly in prior centuries, John's new residence will not just be within walking distance, it will literally be above the new office.
Although we expect the design to be revised, this is the architect's first impression of the new building, to be located at 172 Wells Avenue (at the corner of Wells and Graves), just one full block North of the El Cajon Judicial Center:
